Perrin History
History
Pre-NV
- Perrin was born in the land of Vale (detailed below). Perrin was born AFAB, with the name Eve. His birth was uneventful, and he was raised by the community, in the darkness of the tunnels. Some of them made of metal, some of them made of dirt.
- When Perrin was 8, he began to have nightmares over being a monster that should be killed. He told his parents about it, and he was told to repent for it, for perhaps he did sin without knowing it.
Perrin also found himself drawn to a mix of books - technical manuals on one hand, and fantasy like the Chronicles of Narnia and The Hobbit on the other. (He would grow to read the Lord of the Rings later in life.) - Even at 13, Perrin still had the nightmares at times. He was also tested and chosen to become one of the maintainers of the Treasure of Vale, due to his good skills with technology. Yet, he was also expected to have children when he was of age, and a husband was pre-chosen for him. Thankfully, Perrin got along with his pre-chosen husband.
This is how it was, and how it had to be. To preserve the old ways, and protect their treasure. Yet, already, as a teenager... Perrin wondered. Why should they simply play out the old ways? Would it not be better to adapt, to make things better? - Perrin was going to turn 18 soon. And then, he would need to begin having children, to keep his people going. But the idea horrified him. And thus, he only had one option.
He took his favorite books, a few sets of clothes, a gun, and fled Vale. He burst into the light, and ran. On that day, Eve died, or so Perrin says.
Now, Perrin didn't know much about the world out there. He was ignorant. He eventually found a bike, abandoned, able to be repaired. This helped him continue to flee.
Nobody went after him. Perhaps they didn't notice. Or perhaps it was assumed that Perrin would have died already, in the wild winds of their home. - Perrin had learned many lesions after fleeing and heading southwest. There was much he also does not discuss from this period. How he survived. How cruel the world was. He was left bleeding out, in the Wasteland, just another pretty gal who wasn't worth the effort.
- But Perrin was found, and saved. By Ananta Cole, and Acorn Rivers. Two sisters. They took him to their shared homeland, and nursed him back to health.
Also, this is where he learned that being transgender was a thing. That he could be a guy. Right away, Perrin began to identify as male. - It was when Perrin was around 22 that he took on the name Perrin. He thought it sounded like a Hobbit name, and Hobbits are cool as fuck. That's the sort of life that a Wastelander would admire. Even though he had a home in the settlement that Ananta and Acorn protected (one as a politician, the other her bodyguard), Perrin couldn't settle. (Was this home somewhere he was worthy of?)
He would go out with Ananta a lot, while modifying and building his bike to be a motorbike. He'd also go out hunting slavers with Acorn - yet, Perrin didn't like to take lives himself (but he will). It's something that Acorn notices, and asks him about it. Even if Perrin has left Vale, he was taught that it was not his place to strike first, to kill. Not only that, but he feels it'll make him more of a sinner. (Even now, he sometimes has nightmares, though they've shifted a lot with time.)
It was also around this time he began to casually experiment with drugs and alcohol. He especially found himself drawn to Mentats, which helped him focus his mess of a brain and work. It's how he was able to put together his motorbike, and he became known as a sort of fixer for the town when he was around. - Eventually, Perrin got the courage to get top surgery. Ananta knew a place - and so, Perrin set out for the Boneyard, to the Followers of the Apocalypse. Perrin had heard of them, of course. He'd even visited a few times before. But not for this. He went alone, and paid in full. He needed to get actual identification as well, and thus he put down the name Perrin Vale.
- After that, though, Perrin was full of confidence. Confidence that fucked him up at 30, when he got into a nasty brawl in New Reno. He lost an eye, and got horrific scars on his face. Made him look scarier then he was. He managed to get home, but something changed about Perrin after that. Perhaps it was the closeness to death, or the cocktail of drugs he was on. But he began to think of himself as somebody who could make things better. Like how he fixed machines and technology. He could stop his own death, and continue to aid as he should.
- It was also around when he was thirty that Perrin became a Courier. It'd give him more of a reason to see more places. See more people, and see the kindness the world holds beneath the fear. He would not speak of his home (mostly because he didn't want to be held to any legacy or put his Nana and Mama at risk) but he would be a lot kinder then somebody who went though what he went though should be. Perhaps this was his second rebirth.
- Perrin was only a day away when the Divide exploded, and is certain he caused it somehow. And if that's the case, he feels more guilt and sin on him. Thus, he will continue to simply help people. This is when his vow not to kill truly was solidified. He could so easily kill people, yet... is it not harder to let them live? He still continued to return to his home every so often, of course. And he told these fears to his Nana and his Mama.
New Vegas
- These notes are a lot more vague because I. Need to do a replay.
- DLC order: OWB, HH, DM, LR.
- Perrin saw the delivery to House as just another delivery. Decided to do it on foot, for once - his bike needed some new parts he'd find in the Mojave, anyway, for a new project he was starting. (He wanted to make a van of some sort for further travel.)
- Perrin met with Arcade before any DLC, he followed the path you're recommended to. Him and Boone are also friends c: Actually, Boone is the first of the companions that Perrin tells about the Divide, quietly. Boone probably also pings that Perrin knows a lot about the NCR, more then he lets on.
- Raul and Perrin are mechanic buddies as well. Perrin shares so many ideas and Raul is just like 'okay if you're sure boss' and then things fuck up. It's fine.
- Perrin and Lily have a gentle relationship. Perrin calls her Grandnana. There is an odd sense of deja vu from the two of them. It's fine.
- Perrin and Veronica... well, I'll get into their relationship later. :)
- Perrin got back the Platinum Chip before any DLC, and met Yes Man.
- OWB is actually very important for Perrin. Because it helped him realize some of his transhumanist desires, and also that perhaps being called a man wasn't all that he wanted. (Thank you Dala for making him feel weirdly happy being called a teddy bear.) But yeah, his brain was left behind, and Perrin got to talk to it for a while. And said Brain ends up in a Think Tank. Perrin is okay with this.
- DM gave Perrin a lot of trauma. It also is when his voice became raspy, like a ghoul. The toxic gas cloud there did a number on his body, and has begun to slowly kill him, even now.
- Perrin went though OWB and DM within two weeks. This is what I call Hell Week, and he is a wreck afterwards.
- The only notes I have for HH is that Perrin fucking hates Joshua and Daniel both, having been reminded of Vale.
- So, with Perrin and Veronica, she figures out he's from Vale after he begins to infodump ideas about how the Bunker could survive. She's a bit horrified that this gentle-looking guy is one of those scary tunnel-living guys.
But! She does calm down but eventually decides she needs to leave as well. They both needed to leave their homes, to do better for the world.
But the Brotherhood followed. - It's around this point that Perrin does Arcades' personal quest and helps Arcade decide to stay with the life he decided, the life with the Followers of the Apocalypse. That this is who he is. Yes, legacy shapes them, but they decide what that means. (Perrin cannot fit into Arcades' power armour, btw.)
- LR... well. It's a lot. Of course Ulysses knows that this man of destruction and horror comes from Arroyo. He knows not of Vale, but has picked up the religious guilt that Perrin carries as well. Yet, in the end, he's talked down. Perrin is no monster. Perrin is just... Perrin.
They travel out of the Divide together. They are both friendly, in the end. - But by then, the Second Battle of Hoover Dam happened.
- As for the battle itself? Killed Lanius, in the first blood he'd taken in years. His body bled violently, seeming close to death himself. He called on his own legacy, to strike at what he hated. However, his 'fight' with the NCR was more calm. Negotiations, with Securitrons at his side. Perhaps it was knowledge he got from Ananta or Acorn, but he negotiated a truce and eventual relationship that allowed the Mojave to remain free.
- Perrin remains in the Mojave, but between his desire to keep moving, and feeling that his body is sickly, Perrin doesn't know how long he'll stay. But it's Nice.
